Tony Bolton and Agar Aromas Vietnam

Tony Bolton (of British origin) and his wife Tha Bolton began distilling Oud in Vietnam in 2013 as a passion project, using a custom copper still and gentle traditional hydro-distillation. Within a few years their small-batch, often single-tree Oud had a strong following among collectors, along with their homegrown frangipani oil and their sandalwood distillations.

The business was first known as Agar Aromas Vietnam and became Aroma Sublime in 2019, when Pierre Black joined to expand the range and bring Tony's work to a wider audience. Tony passed away in October 2022.

Tha Bolton, who worked beside Tony from the beginning, continues as our master distiller at the Vietnam headquarters. Several of Tony's original attars and Oud oils are still available, and our in-house distillations continue in the same tradition.
