Distiller, sourcer and natural perfumer at Aroma Sublime

Pierre Black is a Canadian naturopath, distiller and natural perfumer. He joined Tony and Tha Bolton at Aroma Sublime in 2019, working on-site at the company's distillery in Vietnam, and later developed his own distillation practice while living at a rural Zen temple in Kyushu, Japan, through the pandemic years.

Today Pierre travels between Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Japan to source wild agarwood and other raw materials, meet artisan distillers in person, and distill alongside master distiller Tha Bolton. He uses gas chromatography (GC/MS) testing to check the authenticity and purity of outsourced oils before they reach the shop, and writes most of the articles in our Learning Center.

His own work includes small-batch distillations of copal, frankincense and Japanese temple sandalwood, and a line of all-natural perfumes made almost entirely from in-house distillations.
